This classic 1970's Swedish motion picture was directed by the famous Ingmar Bergman. Charlotte Andergast (Bergman) is a very well established and famous concert pianist who was never much a
mother to her two children. A big decision is made that Charlotte will go visit her children that she has not seen in seven years. First child she visits is her eldest, Eva (Ullman). Eva lives in the desolate country along with her husband Viktor (Halvar Björk). The youngest of her two children being Helena (Nyman) was put into a mental institution due to being both physically/mentally disabled. Charlotte made the decision to place her youngest daughter into this institution years ago. Unknown to her, Eva decided to remove her sister Helena from the institution and had her instead live with her.

Charlotte stays the evening with her two daughters and throughout the course gets worse. This is when Eva with all her emotions finally was able to lash out towards her mother whom she had a lot of right to do so and finally get it all out. An evening where both mother and daughter shared hurtful and regretful statements from what they missed or were neglected of getting. This is one evening that both daughters and mother will forever be changed and forever needed in order to close a chapter of all of their lives.
